Mmmm…I love biscuits. You will never say I can’t make homemade biscuits again. This recipe turns out perfect every time! Delicious and flaky…Mmmm…Mmmm…Mmmm… pass the honey please.
- 3-¾ cups All-purpose Flour
- ¾ cups Cake Flour
- 2 teaspoons Cream Of Tartar
- 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar
- ½ cups Cold Vegetable Shortening
- 1-¾ cup Cold Buttermilk
- ½ cups Unsalted Butter, Softened, Plus Extra Melted Butter For Brushing Tops
Preheat oven to 450ºF.
Spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
In bowl, combine flour, cake flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
Cut in shortening into dry ingredients with a pastry blender. Mixture will resemble coarse crumbs, with no large chunks.
Make a well in the middle of the flour and add the buttermilk slowly. Pull in the flour to the milk and work with your hands to make the dough. Keep this up till all flour is worked in.
Turn dough out to a floured surface and pat out to a 9 x 12 rectangle.
Turn dough so the short side faces you and place 3 tablespoons of butter on the dough and fold like a letter. Do in the same matter till all butter is used. Do not overwork the dough.
Pat dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick and cut with a floured biscuit cutter. Do not twist the cutter, just go down and up.
Place on the pan, 1 inch apart.
Lighty brush tops with melted butter and bake for about 20 minutes, or till golden brown.
